“It can’t go lower than this…” I stood across from her in the parking lot, parking my heart next to her’s, as she expelled her emotions, and I am trying to grip her heart from falling lower than what she had just gone through.
All around there is peace jingling this season. How can I speak peace to you when you are war torn? You have been made low? You are shut and not given a place? You are denied your basic dignity? All too familiar paths to me, a battlefield of exclusivity, injustice and elitism where I never stood a chance. I waged war to the air. I was not heard, not seen, but I stayed out in the fields, kept watch over the flock…even at dark, when darkness loomed in my mind.
We are not alone.
In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. Luke 2:8
In the same region…Interestingly, Good News of peace was given in the same region. The best news of all times first appeared to people in the same region who kept their flock at night. Who desperately needed peace.
When exclusivity, injustice and elitism takes your joy away and frightens you with dark loneliness and hopelessness, hear the good news one more time, jingling all over again. The world only knows the peace it manufactures by oppression. It promotes an apparent peace that thrives on exclusivity, injustice and elitism. All the while true peace stands contrary. True Peace is a Person dressed in three piece- Inclusivity, Justice and Ordinary!
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for ALL the people; Luke 2:10 (Emphasis mine)
Peace is for ALL the people. The good news God gave is inclusive. It is not for a people group, not for those who jumped certain hoops or those whose names have titles. No matter who you are, what you do, how dark it is around you, how low you are, how oblivious your contributions have been, how much the stench you carry from being in the field, you are included. When you are dragged by the pain of exclusivity, holler out the good news that is inclusive.
…for today in the city of David there has been born for YOU a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 (Emphasis mine)
Peace is a Savior for YOU Who is Just. Peace is justice and overthrowing of oppression. He is your personal justice. When you feel not wanted and lost among the crowd, recite the good news that came for YOU. You are wanted dear one. Allow the peace that the angel announced come to your soul this season. When the pain of injustice sear your soul, let the promise of justice soften it again.
“This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”Luke 2:12
Peace is Ordinary. Nothing elite about manger and swaddling clothes. When you feel you are so low, so beneath the cordial corporate, take a deep breath because peace first comes to the ordinary and needy. Peace is wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in manger. Peace is the promise in unusual places. The swaddling clothes or manger could not hide or destroy the potential it wrapped. When the pain of being different and ordinary steals your joy, water your soul with the promise found in the ordinary.
Dear one, true peace is dressed in the three-piece of Inclusivity, Justice and Ordinary.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Let no Grinch steal your joy this Christmas.
